Bigs and Littles Enjoy Day of Thomas Jefferson
Bigs and Littles were up bright and early to venture on an exciting educational field trip on Saturday, September 20th to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello home and gardens and the University of Virginia.
Matches from the Fairfax and Montgomery Latino Outreach Program were invited to experience the life and times of one of America’s Founding Fathers. The trip was organized for 50 Bigs and Littles by a Big Brother from BBBSNCA’s Fairfax program, and Latino Outreach Directors, John Sanchez and Mirna Quiroga. The trip was underwritten by Fairfax program funds.
With an early start, the matches met at 7:30 a.m. to take a chartered coach bus to the estate in the mountains where they toured Mr. Jefferson’s home and learned more about him and how he lived.
Bigs and Littles then visited The University of Virginia in Charlottesville, which was founded by Thomas Jefferson. They were able to eat lunch with the university students and talk to them about college life.
This free tour for the Bigs and Littles was an opportunity for them to bond but also to learn more about history and at the same time consider their own educational futures.
