The Steve Harvey Mentoring Campaign partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters and WHUR Radio 96.3 FM for a local recruitment campaign to attract mentors. Men from the Washington, DC area responded to the call to “Become A Mentor.”

Kamla Kay Bell and Rukia Potter, Federal Work Student Interns at BBBSNCA, recruited over 130 prospective mentors at First Baptist Church of Glenarden, MD on January 26th. Program staff will hold orientations for the prospects and certify these volunteer mentors to be matched with boys, 7-15 years old. BBBSNCA has a waiting list of boys, 90 percent of whom are African American boys.

Steve Harvey is a comedian, tv and radio personality, and author who hosts The Steve Harvey Morning ShowSteve Harvey, and Family Feud.

This recruitment drive is part of the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation’s goal “to help shift the image/perception of black men and boys, inside and outside of the African American community.”
