Community-Based Services One-To-One
Big Brothers Big Sisters’ One-To-One® services comprise a positive, broad-based program, which focuses on meeting a child’s basic development needs. A Big Brother Big Sister commits to incorporate a child into his or her life and spends time weekly with a Little Brother or Little Sister.
Each match is carefully administered by trained personnel who are guided by rigorous standards. Professional caseworkers provide ongoing support and supervision to the “Big,” the “Little” and the family.
The average length of a match in the metropolitan Washington area is over four years while many last more than 10 years or a lifetime.
Services to Single Parents
Growing up in a single-parent home can compound the difficulties of growing up and, in some cases, dramatically affect a child’s development. For mothers or fathers, the stress of being a single parent can be overwhelming when juggling work and family responsibilities. Providing vital services to single parents and their families—including advocacy, crisis intervention and resource referrals by professional casework staff members—is a primary component of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission.
